Day 89: A scrap of meringue and some treasure hunt

As announced I did make some meringue, three plate sized pieces with chocolate sauce and apparently it was so delicious it was all gone before I managed to photograph it :) Well, that is at is should be.

Otherwise we managed to organise and play a easter treasure hunt. Me and grandad dressed up in some of our easter :) clothes. Grandad had this long tai chi robe made up in china while I had a green chinese shirt with purple pants and a hat I found in charity shop. The event started when we descended the stairs drumming on a drum and ringing a bell. Kids run to see what that was and then we started. There were eight clues, in and out of the house. With each clue there was a small treasure and that led to...

a LARGE treasure, aka a pinata that we suspended on the clothes rack. Kids weren't really hitting it hard enough to break so daddy was very happy to help out..We really stuffed it with chocolate so when it burst it was like a shower of colorful sweets to a huge delight of everyone around. After we gathered the treasure, we shared it out between each other with kids getting the lion share of it. Needles to say, they didn't eat anything else that day...

Day 84: Orange cake

Day after being sick as a dog, I tried to make something in the studio, then I gave up and went to do some baking instead...Good thing is I didn't burn it (that much) on the other hand it was kind of average, didn't taste of oranges enough and could definitely bean more soaked inside...But I was sick and quite pleased I made anything at all. I did some knitting too but it's just a beginning of a cardigan so nothing much to show...

Day 71: Crochet flower...I wish!

I keep getting crochet stuff so I reckon it's a sign to learn how to crochet. Yesterday I got another little kit in one of crafting magazines and it look really easy. Hrm:( Not for me, see with knitting you can count stitches really easily but with crochet where are you supposed to stick the needle in??
Anyway, below is the picture of what I was supposed to make and what I made...I am practicing on making just single crochet now, at least it seems I am getting same amount stitches in every row but who knows?

After I swore at crochet for a bit and wished my good friend Kajsa was here so she could teach me I decided to bake for a bit, Made some nice naan bread and was about to make orange cake but oven thermometer packed it in...so I guess I'll go and paint for a bit..or something..

Day 70: Cheese Cake

I have gone into another one of my bad sleeping periods and are having terrible time with very little quality sleep so my creativity is not at the top. I find it easier to go into the kitchen and make something then in the studio hence mini-cheese cakes with goats cheese, lemon and blueberry. Really nice, actually, I don't like shop bought cheese cakes so I was really worried mine was going to taste similar but no it was lovely and delicious and super easy to make - bonus:)

Day 32: Swedish Semla (almond bun)

Baking is definitively a creative practice. Here we have some Swedish almond buns with cream, it is a traditional cake eaten about this time of year and you get them in all cafes in sweden but obviously I am not there, so I decided to treat my english husband to one. He took the largest one :)

I haven't baked since Christmas so it felt good to be up to the elbows in flour again. Secret to good baking is definitely love. I tend to bake when I feel happy and loved because then the cakes come out right.
I have been baking since early childhood, my mother is a marvellous baker and my whole female side of family are known for their baking abilities, but unfortunately my mama tended to be a bit harsh with her expectations so I stopped baking for years. It is only recently I have re- discovered my love for baking and that I'm quite good at it. My favourites are bagels to which I refer to as my chubby children, all shiny and fat. :) I have to hold back on it a bit, otherwise my husband, who is a great fan, will end up looking like a bagel.
